ORCID, the NIH, and You

ORCID, the NIH, and You

Do you have an ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID)? ORCID is a non-profit organization that assigns unique identifiers to researchers. ORCID is used by journals and others to link publications to individuals, and your ORCID account can be used to link to your biographical information and various professional activities.

As of May 25, 2025, NIH will require senior / key personnel on all NIH applications to link their ORCID iD in their eRA Commons Profile. In addition, they must enter their ORCID iD into SciENcv when preparing the “Common Forms” (that is Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending Other Support Forms).

If you're applying for NIH funding, or working with researchers who are, join us in this session to learn more about ORCID. We'll cover where to obtain an ORCID iD, how to register it with federal system like eRA Commons, where to register your ORCID with UVA, and how to manage ORCID account settings.
